Racing

Racing typically takes place every weekend throughout the season from around Easter until the end of October. Most weekends we will run one day of racing around the buoys and one day of racing around the islands in the loch which contribute to our dinghy and keelboat series. In addition there are a number of standalone events such as the Lomond Isles weekend, Trophy weekend and Pursuit races. There is often informal frostbite sailing in the winter months for those who are keen to keep their sailing going a little longer. We use a mixture of permanent and temporary marks and we make good use of the islands to keep the courses varied and interesting. In addition, after racing there are facilities to buy hot drinks and snacks from the tea shop.

Loch Lomond Sailing Club is a regular venue on the circuit for a number of classes and we host both an open dinghy weekend and an open keelboat weekend annually. Take a look at the Calendar to see what is coming up.

Taking into account experience and ability, members are required to take it in turns to act as Race Officer, Safety Boat Cox or Crew, or one of the various other duties needed on a weekend rota to support racing. All our safety boat drivers are RYA Power Boat 2 (PB2) Certified, and we have RYA instructors at the club who run regular courses allowing members to become PB2 certified at the club.

For handicap racing, we use a local variation of the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick scheme to get a Portsmouth Number (PN) for every boat at the club. Please check the starter's box for the latest list
