Racing

Racing typically takes place every weekend throughout the season from around Easter until the end of October. There is often a frostbite series in the months leading up to Christmas for those who are keen to keep their sailing going a little longer. We have a mixture of permanent and temporary marks and we make good use of the islands to keep the courses varied and interesting.

Loch Lomond Sailing Club is a regular venue on the circuit for a number of classes and we host both an open dinghy weekend and an open keelboat weekend annually. Take a look at the Events page to see what is coming up.

Taking into account experience and ability, members are required to take it in turns to act as Race Officer, Safety Boat Cox or Crew, or one of the various other duties needed on a weekend rota to support racing. All our safety boat drivers are RYA Power Boat 2 Certified, which can be awarded at the club. In addition, after racing there are facilities to buy hot drinks and snacks from the tea shop.

For handicap racing, we use the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick scheme to get a Portsmouth Number (PN) for every boat at the club. Please check the starter's box for the latest list, or the RYA website
